I recently promoted an event in which Darryl Davis is the keynote speaker/presenter.
It’s called A New Survival Skills Seminar For Real Estate Agents, Brokers and and Managers, which is sponsored by several noteworthy groups such as the RISmedia, The Red X and Women’s Council of Realtors.
One of the reasons why I tweeted or blogged about the event was that when I was first introduced to Darryl Davis, I was a rookie agent in need of direction and motivation. I remember attending Triple Play 2006 in which Darryl Davis was conducting one of many educational seminars at Atlantic City Convention Center. Before the start of the session, the room was packed. Unbeknownst to me at the time, he was and still is a crowd favorite. I, being a rookie agent, had no idea what was about to happen. I simply heard from other agents, “Oh, Darryl Davis, he’s good.” Next, without warning, Davis runs into the session from a rear entrance, stadium music blazing, clapping, smiling, swinging his arms side to side. All the while, I’m like, “That guy must be on something.” And that something was pure passion ans energy for the real estate business. I was completely blown away at how much I learned in one sitting. I still have my notes from that same session many years ago.
As an auditory learner, Davis is fun to watch and listen to. As a former educator myself, I know that delivering information in a humorous yet informative way is an effective speaking/teaching strategy.
So, when I heard that Davis is coming to Jersey next week, I did what I always do: I tweeted and blogged about it. I even found myself telling another agent about the event in Morristown at the end of the month. Seconds later after a quick Google search I found both postive and negative reviews of Darryl Davis of which some are very old (like a few of which can be seen on RipOffReport.com).
I have a strong policy that when I refer or recommend someone or something, I want the recommendation to my live up to my expectations and over deliver when possible. I did what you will most likely do. Read reviews before attending a free or paid for seminar. Time is money! If you are going to spend a half day session with Darryl Davis, you should know what you are getting out of it, but bear in mind when you’re successful, there comes a certain degree of criticisms one must deal and learn to live with. Davis is subject to testimonials or on-line reviews like any other business.
If you read the negative reports or reviews with regards to Mr. Davis, you will find that there are certainly people out there who have mixed feeling as to whether or not the information he presents is worth your time. Only you can be the judge of that!
What I found from the negative reviews are claims of Davis not being original enough or not giving credit to other sources. Second, I found that Davis has a tendency to be overtly personal about his life and experiences, which bothers some.
The real question is: will his tactics and personality hinder you and your ability to gain knowledge? Not, very likely.
Therefore, for now and until proven otherwise, we are going to call Darryl Davis a FRIEND! See you in Morristown.
